MORNING
Liège, city of Simenon (Belgian-born French novelist, writer of detective fiction), situated on the crossroads of northern and southern European culture and capital of the Walloon provinces of Belgium.

We propose a guided tour, by foot or by bus, through the old historical city centre. The architectural landscape of the city on the Meuse shows a lot of variety and is a must for tourists visiting the French speaking part of Belgium.

Via the Saint-Lambert Square (the historical and traditional heart of Liège) we arrive at the imposing Palace of the Prince-Bishops, famous for its galleries with sixty pillars, each of them with a diffrent capital.

We continue our walking excursion and a bit further we arrive at the Market Square. This welcoming and bustling square is framed by beautiful house fronts from the 17th and 18th centuries : among them is the facade of the Town Hall, also known as “the Violet”. A guided visit of the Perron Fountain, the symbol of the liberties granted to the borough, is included.

Other places of interest which we admire in the heart of Liège are : the Museum of Walloon Life, Museum of arms and Saint Bartholomew’s Church where we visit the celebrated Romanesque Baptismal Font.

The Font was installed in St. Bartholomew’s Church in 1804, after having been spared from the Revolutionaries. It is supported by 10 oxes (originally 12… referring to the 12 apostles?) and is considered as one of the greatest masterpieces of Belgian art.
LUNCH
Lunch in the historical heart of Liège (3 course meal, driks not included)
AFTERNOON
In Blegny we visit the old mine buildings, enjoy an audiovisual presentation about the history of coal-mining in Liège, and visit the old underground mine pits with a former coal-miner as a guide
